An aside: It was such a treat to attend the Flashback Festival in 2016. My wife and I had traveled to the UK for the wedding of a niece and decided to spend another two weeks traveling around the UK visiting castles along with manors, and estates that are open to the public. The Rockingham Castle Estate was one such place we wanted to see. This remarkable castle, built on the order of William the Conqueror, was held by the crown until it became the ancestral home of the Watsons for more than 450 years. There are very few other homes that have been continuously occupied for nearly 1000 years and within that time been owned by just one family since being relinquished as a royal Castle. The Flashback Festival was held on its grounds. How fortitious was that! It turned out to be a fantastic weekend of music offering a line-up packed full of artists from across the decades, and all set in the picturesque grounds of Rockingham Castle. We were tickled pink to be there. The mix of atrists was quite eclectic. We have attended several Flashback Festivals that the radio station Kiss 104.1FM in Atlanta, Georgia, hosts every year. That festival also celebrates the best music of the '70s through the '90s. This past summer (2019) I sported the same trendy mens glasses from Eyeglasses.com I had at the 2016 UK Flashback Festival. LOL. I have had the lenses replaced on these Ray Ban sunglasses several times, now, switching colors each time. For the UK Flashback Festival in 2016 the lenses were a matte military green. I received quite a few compliments on those shades as we traveled throughout the UK on that trip. For the latest Atlanta Kiss 104.1FM Flashback Festival, my sunglass lenses were a cool color combination that ombre from a gold to a pink. They wrecked havoc with one's perception of color, but look so hip. We may return to the UK this summer. There is a 2020 Flashback Festival being held just south of Bath, England at the Yeovil Showground in Somerset. Haven't explored this area of the England, but going to the festival will depend upon the lineup of acts. We'll just wait and see.

REVIEW

The Flashback Festival at Thoresby Estate Nottinghamshire on Saturday 2oth August 2016

By: Kevin Cooper / http://www.ukmusicreviews.co.uk/

Clive Jackson, better known as the Doctor from Doctor & The Medics and compere for the event told this crowd on the second day of The Flashback Festival at the Thoresby Estate that in 38 years of appearing at Festivals, it had never rained. Yesterday he experienced real festival weather as blustery and rainy conditions threatened to put a damper on proceedings, but thankfully this hardy crowd did not even notice.

The afternoon’s special guest, Paul Carrack came on stage early and so it was a meagre crowd that saw him and his six piece band bound onto the stage to open with Tempted. Choosing from a back catalogue of songs from his days with Ace, Squeeze, Roxy Music and Mike + The Mechanics, his unique, mellow, blusey voice showcased the likes of The Living Years, Another Cup Of Coffee, and How Long, before he brought his energetic set to a close with sing along number, Over My Shoulder.

Up next was the obligatory appearance from Doctor & The Medics who had this growing audience dancing along to the likes of You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) and Tainted Love. This eccentric band’s enthusiasm is simply infectious as the crowd were warmed up nicely with set closer, Spirit In The Sky.

In anticipation of a great evening of nostalgia, Hue & Cry, were given a warm welcome. Backed by a skilled and eager band the Kane brothers sounded lively and engaging. Getting the crowd immediately onside with opener Looking For Linda, their set included most of their hits and by the time the closer came, Labour Of Love, the crowd were positively rocking.

Nick Heyward’s set was cut short due to timing issues so there was no Fantastic Day, but what he did have time for was simply that, fantastic. There was no doubting the delight of the crowd as he treated them to Blue Hat For A Blue Day, Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl), whilst On A Sunday got a rare outing. Finishing with Love Plus One the crowd were dancing with the energetic glee that would have graced any teenage disco.

It was soon the turn of Living In A Box, with guest vocalist Kenny Thomas, who’s own songs Outstanding and Thinking About Your Love were sneaked in. But it was Blow Your House Down and the fun danceable pop tune of Living In A Box that had this crowd dancing.

No festival would be complete without an appearance from Roland Gift, former frontman with Fine Young Cannibals, whose voice definitely gets better with age as he delivered his huge hits, Suspicious Minds, Good Thing and singalong number, She Drives Me Crazy.

Leaving the stage for Bananarama, now a duo, they let Cruel Summer, Nathan Jones and Shy Boy show what they were about. Really Saying Something induced a mass singalong as did set closer Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye).

With Billy Ocean’s timeless 80’s classics and infectious dance moves, songs like Red Light Spells Danger and Caribbean Queen will never lose their appeal. Radiating the energy of a twenty year old, hits like Love Really Hurts Without You and When The Going Gets Tough, he brought this year’s Festival to a close.

What could have been a dreary, wet and thoroughly unpleasant day, turned out to be a joyous celebration of 80s music. As the Doctor once said, “The British do festivals better than any other country”. On this weekend’s showing, there won’t be any argument from this crowd.

We would like to take a moment to send our sincere apologies for the cancellation of Flashback Festival 2017 and give you a brief explanation of why and what will happen next.

The truth of the matter is that Flashback has had to be cancelled because of lack of support from the local community which has led to a decrease in sales. We are extremely saddened and disappointed that the event will not be going ahead this year or in the future.

We do thank you; the customers that have supported us this year and we will work as quickly as possible to process all the refunds. As you can appreciate, this is a mammoth task and we have to follow a set procedure in doing this, we have started the process now and hope to finalise these refunds as soon as possible.

Once again, we thank you for your support over the years.

Fury as Flashback Festival at Thoresby Park is cancelled just weeks ahead of performance

ByJames Peck / 26 JUL 2017 / www.lincolnshirelive.co.uk/

Revellers had already bought camping gear and outfits

Fans have reacted with fury after the popular Flashback Festival was scrapped just weeks ahead of the four-day event starting.

The shock announcement was made last week - just a month before the 80s music extravaganza featuring OMD, T'Pau and Altered Images were due to perform in front of thousands of fans between August 18 and 21 at Thoresby Park.

Angry revellers have labelled the decision as "shocking", with people from across the country and beyond having to cancel plans at the 11th hour.

One of them is Retford's Annie Knight.

"My sister and I were really looking forward to it - I can't believe it; I'm absolutely gobsmacked," she said.

"We've been over the last few years for the full four-day camping and we'd bought camping equipment and outfits and now they tell us it's not happening.

"When they put the message up on facebook there were people from Norway and Scotland who said they were supposed to be coming, people had booked time off work. It's a complete mess."

Fans were told they can get refunds, but that it would take 30 to 60 days to get their money back.

"It took 60 seconds for them to take our money but we have to wait two months to get it back - it's ridiculous," Annie said.

Organisers shut down their original Thoresby Flashback Festival facebook page and replaced it with a message about the cancellation.

In a missive sent to fans by email, seen by the Retford Times, organisers said the move was because of a 'lack of support'.

"We would like to take a moment to send our sincere apologise for the cancellation of Flashback Festival 2017 and give you a brief explanation of why and what will happen next," the message read.

"The truth of the matter is that Flashback has had to be cancelled because of lack of support from the local community which has led to a decrease in sales.

"The main reason why we moved the event to Thoresby Estate was to give us more scope to grow the event. Our aim over the next few years was to create a festival which had much more to offer our customers; a few examples of this would have been to introduce a dedicated kids' area and second stage with additional artists.

"We are extremely saddened and disappointed that the event will not be going ahead this year or in the future. We do thank you; the customers that have supported us this year and we will work as quickly as possible to process all the refunds.

"As you can appreciate, this is a mammoth task and we have to follow a set procedure in doing this, we have started the process now and hope to finalise these refunds as soon as possible.

"Once again, we thank you for your support over the previous years."

In a message on its facebook page, Thoresby Park said the decision had nothing to do with the venue.

The Flashback Festival was due to be held at the stunning Thoresby Park venue near Bothamsall

>The Flashback Festival was due to be held at the stunning Thoresby Park venue near Bothamsall

"Thoresby Park is disappointed to announce that it has received notification from the Flashback Festival organisers, UK Festivals and Events Limited, that this event has been cancelled.

"This decision has been made by the Flashback Festival organisers and is something beyond Thoresby Park’s control.

"The festival organisers have yet to confirm with Thoresby Park any details of how Flashback Festival customers can obtain ticket and camping refunds.
